The National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) разместил a vacancy for a blockchain developer on LinkedIn. Based on the description, the candidate will work on developing the digital hryvnia.
The advertisement was issued on behalf of Vladimir Nagornyuk, director of the NBU’s Department of Informatization.
Requirements for applicants:
- development of infrastructural services, highly available distributed systems and services based on Hyperledger;
- design and development of microservices and integration solutions;
- development of business logic for smart contracts and registries in the Hyperledger network.
The developer is promised opportunities for professional development, a market-competitive salary, KPI-based bonuses, participation in educational programs, comfortable working conditions and a flexible work schedule.
The most well-known blockchain project in which the central bank is involved is the e-Hryvnia.
“The National Bank continues to study the possibilities of issuing digital money in Ukraine for retail payments. The focus of the research is several use cases,” the regulator said.
Among them is the use of the e-Hryvnia:
- for retail cashless payments with potential functionality of the programmable money and the possibility of targeted social payments;
- for use in the sphere related to the turnover of virtual assets, for example, for exchange, issuance support and other operations with virtual assets;
- for cross-border payments.
In 2016 the regulator began studying the possibility of issuing the e-Hryvnia. In 2019, the central bank completed a pilot project, during which it issued coins worth about 5,000 hryvnias.
On 30 June, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted, in second reading and in general, the law “On Payment Services,” which regulates the general principles of issuing central bank digital currencies (CBDC).
The document defines the national digital currency as “the electronic form of Ukraine’s monetary unit, whose issuer is the National Bank.” It also recognises CBDC as a legal means of payment within the country.
In July, the NBU, on the basis of a survey of financial experts, named the most promising use case for CBDC retail cashless payments, including P2P transfers between individuals and e-commerce transactions.
