NEAR Protocol Developers Launch Green NFT Auction
The NEAR Foundation, a non-profit organization, in partnership with South Pole and Mintbase, announced the Green NFT auction. ForkLog reported that project representatives said.
“This is one of the steps on our path to decarbonising the entire IT sector and turning significant technologies, such as blockchain, into a climate solution rather than a problem,” said South Pole.
More than 30 digital artworks will be on offer for the auction. It will run from June 8 to 25.
Half of the proceeds will be directed to climate-change projects. The remaining funds will go to the artists.
“Green NFT is an example of how we can merge creativity and technology… It shows how NEAR Protocol provides technology that can deliver a solution to the problem of global warming,” said Yessin Schiegg, Chief Financial Officer of the NEAR Foundation.
NEAR Protocol is a smart-contract platform based on Proof-Of-Stake. The system employs an innovative consensus mechanism called Nightshade with a sharding implementation. The protocol features a unified environment, shared by all decentralized applications, akin to Ethereum’s current architecture.
In May, the team NEAR Protocol launched the Aurora second-layer protocol to interact with the Ethereum blockchain.
