Netgear and Hyundai X Accounts Compromised to Promote Crypto Scam

In early January, cryptocurrency scammers breached the official X accounts of Netgear and Hyundai MEA to steal user assets. Together, the two pages have a following of 160,000.

From around January 6, the Netgear account was renamed to BRC App, posting links to a malicious website that promised $100,000 to the first thousand registered users.

The Hyundai MEA account was transformed by the perpetrators into a “Binance Labs-supported cross-platform role-playing game Overworld.” When users visited the sites and connected their wallets to the platform, scammers gained full access to their cryptocurrencies and NFTs.

The developers of the original Overworld have already warned followers about the fake accounts and urged caution.

At the time of writing, Hyundai has regained access to its account and removed malicious links. Netgear has only partially regained control.

Earlier, ForkLog reported that creators of cryptocurrency projects fell victim to SIM swapping.
