New Zealand crypto exchange Dasset announces liquidation, blocks access to assets

The New Zealand-based crypto exchange Dasset, headquartered in Auckland, has closed client access to assets and announced the start of liquidation after six years in operation. local media report this.

According to them, users had been unable to withdraw funds from the platform for several months.

Commenting on the situation, Dasset chief executive Steven Makaskill said that in January 2023 the exchange ceased cooperating with its banking provider and could not find a new one. The company is now in the process of voluntary liquidation.

Journalists noted that the exchange had not yet issued the corresponding announcements on its social media, and users can still open new accounts on the platform.

The link to Dasset’s official website now leads to the page of the temporary administrator, the law firm Grant Thornton.

“Dasset’s management says that a significant decline in asset values and trading levels affected its ability to trade profitably. It has been established that the appointment of the liquidators served the interests of all stakeholders,” the statement said.

Grant Thornton’s lawyers intend to contact all platform clients in the near term and focus on “safety and protection” of their assets.

In May 2020, the New Zealand crypto exchange Cryptopia announced liquidation following significant losses caused by a security breach.
