86% of compromised Google Cloud accounts were used for mining

The main objective of breaching accounts on Google’s Cloud platform is their use for mining, stated by Cybersecurity Action Team specialists.

Of the 50 breached accounts analyzed by experts, 86% were used for mining cryptocurrency. The software required for this was downloaded on average 22 seconds after the breach.

In many cases, attackers gained access to the accounts due to weak protections on the part of the users themselves, analysts noted.

Earlier in June, Avast specialists said that since the beginning of 2021 around 65,000 computers in Russia were infected with the DirtyMoe botnet , whose main aim is to install a hidden cryptocurrency miner.
