In Abkhazia, widespread power outages have begun due to electricity shortages. Local parties and organisations criticised miners and urged authorities to \”take tough measures to curb illegal cryptocurrency mining\”.
The joint statement was issued by the public organisation \”Абхазское народное движение\”, \”Аруаа\” and several parties.
The authors of the appeal described the recent decision to legalize mining as \”contradictory\” and doubted that it would help fill the treasury through increased tax revenues.
\”Meanwhile, the overload of power grids, already in a deplorable state, leads to frequent outages, damages transformers and substations,\” the statement says.
As reported in September, local media reported that, due to mining, Abkhazia’s power system was on the brink of a crisis.
Later, the Abkhazian Cabinet of Ministers adopted a number of regulations governing mining, and also set electricity tariffs for miners.
