AI Unlikely to Achieve Consciousness, Says Expert
Artificial intelligence will never become a conscious being due to its lack of aspirations inherent to humans and other biological species. This assertion was made by Sandeep Nailwal, co-founder of Polygon and AI company Sentient, in a conversation with Cointelegraph.
The expert does not consider the end of the world plausible due to AI gaining consciousness and seizing control over humanity.
Nailwal was critical of the theory that consciousness arises randomly from complex chemical interactions or processes. While these may lead to the emergence of complex cells, they do not result in consciousness, the entrepreneur noted.
The Polygon co-founder also expressed concerns about the risks of surveillance and the restriction of freedoms by centralized institutions using artificial intelligence. Therefore, AI must be transparent and democratic, he believes.
“[…] Ultimately, a global AI capable of creating a world without borders should be controlled by every individual,” Nailwal emphasized.
He added that everyone should have a personal artificial intelligence that is loyal and protects against the neural networks of powerful corporations.
In January, Simon Kim, CEO of the crypto venture fund Hashed, expressed confidence that the future of artificial intelligence depends on a radical shift: opening the “black box” of centralized models and creating a decentralized, transparent ecosystem on the blockchain.
