On 25 September, the mainnet of the decentralized cloud hosting platform Akash Network went live.
Currently, Akash Mainnet 1 provides basic operations: transactions, staking, and governance voting.
Akash Mainnet 1 will underpin the decentralized compute marketplace Akash DeCloud, where users supply and lease computing resources directly, without intermediaries.
“There are 8.4 million data centers in the world. Of these, 6 million are corporate servers with utilisation of 10–15%. With Akash DeCloud, companies will be able to monetise unused power, and application developers will be able to access virtual hosting at up to 10 times cheaper than Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud,” commented Greg Osuri, CEO of Akash Network.
Akash DeCloud supports automation for deploying Kubernetes applications and the Docker containerisation system. As a result, working with Akash DeCloud is no different from using virtual hosting such as Digital Ocean.
The Akash DeCloud compute marketplace operates on an auction basis. Users place bids specifying resource quantities, and providers offer rental prices.
Akash Network collabora tes with the DeFi platform Kava, the ChainLink oracle provider, and the Cosmos blockchain platform.
The project uses the Kava DeFi platform’s stablecoin (USDX) as a stable settlement asset. In addition, Akash Network obtains price data for other cryptocurrencies via ChainLink oracles and is developing an IBC cross‑chain interaction protocol in collaboration with Cosmos Interchain Foundation.
On 15 October, the cryptocurrency exchange BitMax held an IEO for the Akash Network’s (AKT) utility token. Users bought 1.8 million AKT at an average price of $0.35.
Since 16 October, AKT is traded on BitMax in a USDT pair. The token price at the time of publication stands at $0.33.
Earlier, Microsoft and Waves Enterprise signed a memorandum of cooperation on blockchain solutions and cloud technologies for the corporate sector in Russia.
