
Alexander Vinnik sentenced to five years in prison and a €100,000 fine
The Paris court sentenced Russian Alexander Vinnik, suspected of laundering at least $4 billion through the cryptocurrency exchange BTC-e, to five years in prison and a €100,000 fine, according to RIA Novosti.
Having found Vinnik guilty of laundering funds, the court dropped charges of extortion and of creating the Locky ransomware.
He has been in custody for three years; he was detained in July 2017 in Greece at the United States’ request.
The Greek court granted the extradition request by three countries — the United States, Russia and France.
On January 23, he was extradited from Greece to France.
