Animoca Brands raises US$75.32m at a US$5.9bn valuation

The blockchain-game operator Animoca Brands has raised US$75.32 million. The company’s valuation reached US$5.9 billion.

“Property rights to digital property represent a defining shift for society across generations, affecting everyone on the internet and laying the groundwork for the emergence of an open metaverse,” said Yat Siu, executive chairman and co-founder of Animoca Brands.

The Hong Kong-based company is the publisher of a number of games including The Sandbox, Crazy Kings and Crazy Defense Heroes, as well as digital products built on IP. Animoca Brands owns several subsidiaries, including Blowfish Studios, Quidd, GAMEE, nWay, Pixowl, Forj, Lympo, Grease Monkey Games, Eden Games, Darewise, Notre Game and TinyTap.

The company actively invests in Web3 projects. Its portfolio includes over 340 holdings, including Colossal, Axie Infinity, OpenSea, Dapper Labs (NBA Top Shot), Yield Guild Games, Harmony, Alien Worlds, Star Atlas and others.

As reported, in the first quarter of 2022, investments in blockchain games amounted to $2.5 billion, compared with $4 billion for the entire previous year.
