Apple tightens NFT use in apps

Tech giant Apple обязал developers to exclude the use of NFTs that do not provide for charging transaction fees (up to 30%).

The restrictions are reflected in Apple’s policy update.

The ban covers non-fungible tokens, including as “buttons, external links, or other calls to action that direct customers to purchasing mechanisms different from how it is implemented in the app”.

According to the update, apps may “sell services related to NFTs”, such as issuance, listing and transfer. But using non-fungible tokens to unlock “additional features” is prohibited.

In practice, Apple’s policy effectively means users are not advised to do anything beyond using apps like OpenSea and Magic Eden to view NFTs. If a user is ready to buy or sell non-fungible tokens, they can do so much cheaper on the marketplace’s website.

Earlier in September Apple allowed the sale of NFTs in App Store apps, according to reports.
