Apple to Integrate ChatGPT into Siri and Operating Systems
Apple Corporation plans to integrate ChatGPT into Siri and other services within its iOS, iPadOS, and macOS operating systems.
The partnership with OpenAI was announced on June 10 during the WWDC 2024 presentation in Cupertino.
“We are excited to collaborate with Apple to introduce ChatGPT to its users in a new way. Apple shares our commitment to safety and innovation, and this partnership aligns with OpenAI’s mission to make advanced artificial intelligence accessible to everyone,” stated OpenAI CEO Sam Altman.
Soon, Siri will be able to consult ChatGPT when necessary. For instance, if you need to prepare a meal with available ingredients, you can ask the voice assistant, which will forward the request to the neural network after your permission.
ChatGPT is also integrated with system-wide tools like Writers Tools for content creation using OpenAI’s AI.
The chatbot will be available in iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia later this year and will be free, without requiring an OpenAI account. Subscribers to one of the company’s premium plans will gain access to paid features of Siri and other Apple applications using ChatGPT.
Initially, the flagship generative artificial intelligence model, GPT-4o, will be employed. According to Apple representatives, the integration of ChatGPT includes built-in privacy protections—requests are not stored by OpenAI, and users’ IP addresses are concealed.
The integration of ChatGPT into Apple’s operating systems is part of the company’s broader initiative to develop generative AI, known as Apple Intelligence. This system is built on large language and intelligence models and will be integrated into most applications.
Apple Intelligence will debut in the fall in the latest versions of iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia on iPhone 15 Pro, iPad, and Mac devices with M1 chips or newer. The iPhone 15 and earlier smartphone models will not receive this feature.
Back in May, OpenAI unveiled its latest chatbot model, GPT-4o. The neural network has become “more human-like” and has learned to process visual data.
