Argentina requires bitcoin exchanges to report user transactions
The Argentine Federal Administration of Public Revenues (AFIP) has ordered cryptocurrency exchanges to transmit data on user transactions on a monthly basis, according to a department document.
Trading platforms must report on customers’ trades, their account balances, and holdings. The AFIP has demanded that information be provided by the 15th day of each month.
In 2020, interest in bitcoin in Argentina reached peak levels amid the deteriorating economic situation. At the time, local congressman Ignacio Torres drafted a bill regulating cryptocurrencies.
In January 2021, the number of searches for the word ‘bitcoin’ in Argentina doubled the 2017 bull market peak.
