Russian artist Arseniy Pyzhenkov, known by the pseudonym Pokras Lampas, sold a photograph of the Chirkey Hydroelectric Station as a non-fungible token (NFT) for 16 ETH (about $28,000 at the time of writing).
The auction started at 1 ETH and lasted exactly 24 hours. The token owner became a user under the alias Sylvian. This is Pokras Lampas’s first work on the NFT market.
The photograph depicts a projection of the artist’s drawing “Transition” onto the Chirkey Hydroelectric Station, the largest on the North Caucasus, located on the Sulak River in Dagestan.
“The work, the original of which was painted on canvas, digitized and adjusted for projection, was then projected onto a physical object, re-digitized and ultimately sold as a virtual token for Ethereum, with the electricity used to produce it. It seems to me that everything has aligned perfectly,” wrote Pokras Lampas.
The artist added that the NFT format supports authored projects and diversifies work with galleries and brands.
In March, an NFT copy of Banksy’s burned painting titled «Morons» sold at auction for 228.69 ETH. Former DC Comics artist José Delbo earned $1.85 million from selling non-fungible tokens featuring Wonder Woman.
Christie’s sold Beeple’s NFT titled “Everydays: The First 5000 Days” for $69.3 million.
An unknown buyer bought one of the nine alien CryptoPunks, CryptoPunk 7804, for 4,200 ETH (about $7.5 million at the time of writing).
