Bakkt CEO rules out adding XRP to new products

The Ripple XRP token is not a candidate for future listings on Bakkt’s institutional platform for trading Bitcoin derivatives. In the Axios Re рассказал the new chief executive Gavin Michael.

According to him, the platform plans to expand and will soon go public.

“We entered the crypto sphere through Bitcoin, but we are now considering other cryptocurrencies as part of developing new products. However, our activities are strictly regulated, so the Ripple token is not among them,” Bakkt’s CEO said.

paused XRP trading by Coinbase and OKCoin after the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) filed a lawsuit against Ripple in December last year. Earlier, trading of the token for US residents was halted by platforms Galaxy Digital, Bitstamp and B2C2.

Bakkt’s activities are overseen by the SEC and FinCEN. Michael said the company is focused on regulatory compliance.

“We believe in the need to regulate cryptocurrency products to sustain their rollout into the financial system. We aim to accelerate the transition to digital assets,” he noted.

Earlier, on January 11, the company confirmed its stock-market debut under the Bakkt Holdings brand with a valuation of $2.1 billion.
