The Bank of England posted seven vacancies in the central bank’s CBDC research group.
The regulator opened one senior leadership post, two in solutions architecture, and four in analytics. All roles involve work on CBDC.
The group will be tasked with assessing the necessity of issuing a digital currency, as well as the associated opportunities and risks to UK financial stability. The specialists will be expected to outline CBDC use cases, its design, and collaboration with other regulators.
In April 2021, the Bank of England and Her Majesty’s Treasury established a joint working group to study digital currency. At the time, authorities noted that the question of its launch had not been finally resolved, and that, if implemented, a CBDC would merely complement cash.
Earlier, the Swedish central bank said it had completed the first phase of pilot tests of the digital krona. In the regulator’s view, CBDC requires further work, particularly with regard to scalability.
The Norwegian central bank announced testing of various technical solutions for the national digital currency over the next two years.
