Bank of Russia to begin settling payments with the digital ruble in 2023

The Bank of Russia plans to carry out the first real settlements within the digital ruble pilot next year. This was disclosed by Bank of Russia head Elvira Nabiullina, TASS reports.

According to her, the regulator has quickly developed a prototype of its own digital currency and is now testing it with banks.

Next year, we will gradually conduct pilot settlements in the real economy with the digital ruble.

In the first pilot group for testing the asset 12 banks joined.

After Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and the Western reaction that followed, the media speculated that Russian companies could use the digital ruble to circumvent sanctions.
