Base Network Experiences Temporary Disruption

On August 5, the Coinbase-developed Layer 2 network, Base, ceased producing new blocks for approximately 20 minutes. This was noted by Chinese journalist Colin Wu.

According to BaseScan, the last block at height #33,792,704 had not been updated for 19 minutes. The journalist noted that the disruption was also confirmed by the analytical platform OKLink.

A user by the nickname Abhi observed that this was the first such incident in the Base network since its launch.

By the time of writing, developers had resolved the issue. The network is operating normally.

Some members of the crypto community expressed concerns that a hacker attack might have caused the disruption. Official information is not yet available.

According to The Block, the technical issues might have been triggered by increased load. Following the rebranding of Base App, activity on the network surged. Within just a month, the number of daily token issuances jumped from 6,649 to 50,000.

In July, Base surpassed Solana in terms of launched tokens for the first time.
