Base Rivals Solana with Nearly 1000 Transactions Per Second
Supported by Coinbase, the Layer 2 network Base reached a peak of 959 TPS against a theoretical limit of 1429 TPS. By comparison, Solana averages 931.2 TPS, with a peak of 2909 TPS, according to Chainspect.

At the time of writing, Base records 142.1 TPS. The spikes in network activity are driven by launchpads and FOMO in meme coins. Base head Jesse Pollak attributed the current record to launches on the AI platform Virtuals.

According to DeFi Llama, on May 28, the protocol generated over $93,450 in fees on Base and $3,370 on Solana.
The service reports that the first network ranks sixth in TVL ($3.74 billion), while its competitor ranks second ($8.93 billion).
In this regard, Base has taken the lead among Ethereum rollups, surpassing Arbitrum ($2.54 billion).

Earlier, developers of leading Ethereum L2s, including Base, agreed to work on implementing so-called “base rollups” to enhance security and reduce network fragmentation.
Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin acknowledged Base’s achievement of the first stage of decentralization.
