The prominent IT expert and host of numerous blockchain conferences Evgeniy Romanenko is in SIZO No. 6 in Baranovichi. He was detained on the evening of August 9, according to TUT.BY, citing an acquaintance of Evgeniy.

According to Marina Zhuk, on that day Evgeniy went to a shop, after which he stopped answering calls. The information was confirmed by Evgeniy’s father, Gennady Romanenko, who learned of his son’s detention only the following day.

On Saturday, Marina Zhuk went to SIZO No. 6 with a care package for Evgeniy and saw his name, surname and patronymic on the lists. It is expected that he would be released on Sunday, 16 August, most likely after 21:40, since he was detained at exactly that time on the ninth.

From 4 to 8 August, Belarus held early voting for the presidential election, and on 9 August the main election took place. Five candidates ran for president. On 14 August, the Central Election Commission announced the final results of the presidential election. According to official data, Alexander Lukashenko won, with 80.1% of voters.

After the polls closed on 9 August, protests erupted across the country. Demonstrators accused the authorities of election falsification. During the protests, about 7,000 demonstrators were detained, hundreds sustained injuries.

Earlier this week, more than 500 leaders, founders and developers of Belarusian IT companies signed an open letter, in which called on authorities to stop violence against peaceful residents, release political prisoners, hold new elections and grant citizens free access to information.
