Former U.S. Senator Max Baucus has joined the cryptocurrency exchange Binance as a regulatory affairs adviser. The exchange said in a statement.
The former official will be responsible for maintaining liaison between the company, American regulators, and authorities. Binance expects that Baucus’s experience and support will help develop not only its business but also the cryptocurrency ecosystem.
In his words, digital assets and blockchain technology are among the most effective forces for transforming the global financial system.
The former official served as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives for the state of Montana, later the Senate. He chaired the Environment and Finance committees, and was also the United States ambassador to China.
In 2017, the former senator said that China had moved ahead of the “still-used in the United States standard payments system”.
He currently runs a consulting firm in Montana, advising a number of American and Chinese companies. In the past he worked as an adviser to Alibaba Group.
In February, former TD Ameritrade top executive Sunayna Tuteya became the Chief Innovation Officer of the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond.
