Binance Joins T3+ Initiative to Combat Crypto Crime
On August 12, Binance became a participant in the global T3+ program aimed at combating crime in the crypto industry. In their first joint investigation, the trading platform froze nearly $6 million linked to a fraudulent scheme known as “pig butchering,” as reported in the company’s blog.
T3+ is an extension of the T3 Financial Crime Unit (T3 FCU) program, launched in September 2024 by Tether, TRON, and TRM Labs. The initiative brings together crypto exchanges and financial institutions to share data and coordinate actions against illegal operations in real time.
Since its inception, T3 FCU has helped freeze over $250 million in crypto assets linked to criminal activities. The program’s partners collaborate with law enforcement agencies across five continents.
“Freezing more than $250 million in illicit assets in less than a year is a clear demonstration of what is possible when the industry unites for a common goal. There is no place for wrongdoers to hide on the blockchain,” noted Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino.
In the first case involving Binance, funds from victims of the “pig butchering” scheme were blocked. This type of fraud involves perpetrators gaining victims’ trust through social networks over weeks or months, then convincing them to invest in fake crypto projects or trading platforms.
Binance also disclosed its own statistics in the fight against crypto crime. From December 2022 to May 2025, the exchange protected 7.5 million users and prevented potential losses amounting to $10 billion.
“At Binance, we are committed to fostering a mature ecosystem where innovation, regulation, and security work together. Joining the T3+ initiative reflects our dedication to proactive collaboration with industry participants and law enforcement to counteract illegal activities in real time,” stated Nils Andersen-Röed, head of Binance’s global financial analysis unit.
Earlier, Binance’s analytical division published a report on the structural factors driving BNB price growth.
