Binance Smart Chain developers outline 2022 network development plans
The team behind the Binance Smart Chain (BSC) blockchain platform revealed its technology development plans for 2022, naming scalability of the network as the priority.
Developers say they aim to tackle the throughput challenge in two main ways:
- enhancing the main blockchain;
- expanding the ecosystem to cross-chain and multi-chain solutions.
The team believes the current version of BSC still has potential for modernization.
To scale the network, the storage and time requirements for validators to fully synchronize the blockchain must be reduced. The Erigon technology from the blockchain project Ankr and the Parallel EVM solution are intended to help with this.
The developers noted among the lessons of 2021 that \”one chain\” cannot cover all aspects.
\”During peak loads, BSC had more than 2 million active users per day, and 1 million was reached only in the GameFi segment. This created serious problems for both the network itself and for its supporting infrastructure, such as RPC/API nodes. For dapps with a large user base, the solution should be multi-chain and cross-chain,\” the statement said.
The implementation of this strategy should be aided by the rollout of the infrastructure layers BSC Application Side Chain (BAS) and BSC Partition Chain (BPC).
BAS will allow developers and node operators to run sidechains. Such networks will keep a close connection with BSC, but will be governed by a smaller set of validators, which will provide flexibility.
However, to minimise potential risks, a new protocol must be implemented that will ensure seamless liquidity between BAS and BSC networks.
BPC will provide another subspace with a new set of validators, a computing mechanism, and a registry.
\”In essence, it works as a ‘shard’ or ‘layer 2’ for offloading part of data, computations and transactions from the main BSC network to other smaller parallel blockchains\”, the developers clarified.
Deployment of BPC is expected to reduce the amount of stored data by distributing it across several networks.
In October 2021, Binance launched a $1 billion fund for the development and support of the BSC ecosystem. The fund has already supported several hundred projects, including GameFi platform Crypto Gaming United.
