Bitcoin ATMs worldwide grew by 83% in 2020

Since the start of the year, the number of installed cryptocurrency ATMs has risen by more than 83%, according to data from the service Coin ATM Radar.

At the time of writing, the number of devices reached 11,689, up from 6,372 on January 1, 2020.

New Bitcoin ATMs are now being installed at a rate of more than 24 per day.

The overwhelming majority of active devices are in the United States — 9,253 or 79.2% of the global total. In Canada there are 892 (7.6%) Bitcoin ATMs, slightly fewer than in all of Europe.

In this region there are 1,257 (10.8%) units, with the United Kingdom leading at 268 Bitcoin ATMs (2.3%). In total they are installed in 70 countries worldwide.

Among device manufacturers, Genesis Coin and General Bytes dominate — their market shares stand at 36% and 29.5%, respectively.

The top 10 operators control more than half of the active Bitcoin ATMs (54.5%). Among the leading trio — Coinflip, Bitcoin Depot and CoinCloud — their shares of the total are each just under 10%.

Earlier this year, the German financial regulator set rules for Bitcoin ATM operators. Despite the the confiscation of 17 devices installed by Shitcoins Club, their number in the country is growing and has already reached 37.
