Bitcoin breaks above $61,000

The first cryptocurrency hit an all-time high above the $60,000 mark. Then Bitcoin continued to rise, crossing the $61,000 threshold.

The chart below shows that the price surge to new highs is accompanied by a spike in trading volumes. At the time of writing, Bitcoin is trading around $61,300 on Bitstamp.

The rise of digital gold revived the rest of the market. Ethereum approached $2,000, the asset’s 24-hour gain exceeded 11%.

In February, Elon Musk joined the meme with a reference to Bitcoin at $100,000, setting his Twitter profile picture to an anime girl with glowing red eyes and the Bitcoin logo in the background.
