Bitcoin-exchange monthly trading volume tops $2 trillion for the first time

In May 2021, trading volume across cryptocurrency exchanges reached a record high of $2.27 trillion, according to The Block.

The Binance trading platform leads the ‘crypto-to-crypto’ segment (the main exchange does not offer USD trading). May trading volume stands at $1.5 trillion.

Coinbase leads the ‘fiat-to-crypto’ segment with $198 billion.

May 2021 could prove to be the worst month for Bitcoin, which by the end of the month fell 37%. At the time of writing, Bitcoin is trading at around $36,850, according to CoinGecko.

On May 26, amid a sell-off in the cryptocurrency market, the total capitalization of stablecoins surpassed the $100 billion mark.

In April, Bitcoin exchange traffic approached the 2018 record.
