The Poltava Court of Appeal in Ukraine is reviewing a claim for 299 million hryvnias in compensation from the state budget following the closure of a criminal case concerning the theft of 300 BTC.
According to the case materials, the plaintiff transferred $10,500 to an unnamed individual for the purchase of bitcoins between 2013 and 2015. In August 2015, the investor reported the theft of 300 BTC to the police.
In September 2023, the Poltava District Court acquitted the accused due to a lack of evidence of criminal activity.
A month later, the aggrieved party filed a renewed claim, citing prosecutorial inaction and demanding compensation of €7.6 million (approximately 299 million hryvnias).
In December 2023, the Kyiv District Court of Poltava dismissed the claim.
The defrauded investor has now appealed this decision.
Earlier, Ukraine tallied criminal cases involving cryptocurrencies that were submitted to court.
