Bitcoin network mines the 19-millionth Bitcoin

On Friday, 1 April, miners mined the 19-millionth Bitcoin. The event occurred at block 730,002.

As of writing, 90.48% of the total supply of digital gold has been mined, which is capped at 21 million BTC.

Under the algorithm laid out by Satoshi Nakamoto, block rewards are halved every 210,000 blocks. The next halving is expected in 2024.

The 18-millionth coin was mined on 19 October 2019.

Earlier in the crypto community, criticised Ripple co-founder Chris Larsen for proposing to move Bitcoin from the Proof-of-Work to Proof-of-Stake.
