Bitcoin Pizza Day: Binance hands out free pizza, while Gate.io gives away 1 BTC

Every year on May 22 the cryptocurrency community marks Bitcoin Pizza Day. The anniversary stems from a milestone for the industry, when in 2010 programmer Laszlo Hanyecz purchased two Papa John’s pizzas for 10,000 BTC.

As of writing, they are worth about $267 million. In 2023 the community marks Bitcoin Pizza Day for the 13th time. ForkLog has gathered greetings and promotions for the celebration.

Among supporters of the event is the cryptocurrency exchange Binance. This year the platform is running prizes, delivering pizzas in person, and hosting contests.

Gate.io offers its users a chance to participate in a 1 BTC giveaway.

Bitrefill, a provider of cryptocurrency gift cards, is also marking the holiday, offering to sponsor Bitcoin meetups and free pizza.

The Polkadot protocol, in celebration of Bitcoin Pizza Day, announced a giveaway of 20 DOT among 10 random users who leave a comment under the post.

The KuCoin exchange is also running a giveaway of 1,000 USDT.

Huobi invites participation in a 2,000 USDT giveaway.

The CoinGecko aggregator has compiled Bitcoin prices for Bitcoin Pizza Day over 14 years.

In May 2020, Laszlo Hanyecz revealed that he had actually spent far more than 10,000 BTC on pizzas.

In 2021, the management of the Dutch Domino’s Pizza franchise proposed that staff receive payment in the first cryptocurrency in honor of Bitcoin Pizza Day.
