On Friday, August 20, bitcoin prices hit a May high, surpassing $48,700.
At the time of writing, bitcoin is trading around $48,760. Over the past 24 hours the asset rose 6.4%, according to CoinGecko.
The price of the second-largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization rose 6.7% to $3,263. The BTC dominance index is 42.3%, ETH is 17.8%.
Earlier, bitcoin skeptic and gold bug Peter Schiff acknowledged that the price of the leading cryptocurrency could surge to $100,000 and that he did not buy the asset back in 2011.
