Bitcoin scammers extorted 850,000 rubles from a Russian man by phone

A 22-year-old resident of Vyksa became a victim of phone scammers who offered him a way to profit from cryptocurrency investments, according to the local police.

About a month ago, an unknown caller contacted the resident and presented themselves as an employee of a financial company that provides ruble-to-bitcoin exchange services.

The victim was sent a link to a site where the exchange allegedly took place. Over the course of a month, the victim transferred a total of 850 000 rubles to the “company’s” accounts.

When the Russian tried to withdraw the amount, he was asked to pay a deposit. After that, the criminals stopped contacting him.

The police opened a criminal case for fraud. Suspects face up to six years in prison.

Earlier ForkLog reported that scammers swindled a Russian man out of almost 400 000 rubles on “bitcoin trading”.
