Bitdefender releases free decryptor for Darkside ransomware-encrypted files
Bitdefender’s antivirus researchers have released a free decryptor for files encrypted by the DarkSide ransomware.
The tool scans the system and automatically identifies the extensions of the encrypted files.
Before starting the decryption process, the tool’s creators advise backing up files to avoid potential loss or damage.

Researchers first detected the DarkSide ransomware in August 2020. In November it spread widely under the Ransomware-as-a-Service (RaaS) model. The primary targets were large corporate networks.
In October 2020, the creators of Darkside donated $10,000 in cryptocurrency to two charitable organizations. They received the money as a result of their ransomware attack.
