Bitmain hints at record hash rate for Antminer E9 that will change the game

The mining equipment maker Bitmain said that the hash rate of the upcoming Antminer E9 for Ethereum mining would be equivalent to 32 Nvidia RTX 3080 graphics cards.

“Antminer E9 will change the game,” the teaser said.

According to данным mining-pool F2Pool, 32 RTX 3080 GPUs mining on the Ethash algorithm deliver a hash rate of 3040 MH/s. If Bitmain’s claim is confirmed, at the current price of Ethereum and network difficulty, the daily income from a single Antminer E9 miner, excluding electricity costs, would be $310.

The cost of the device and its power consumption are unknown, so calculating the payback period for the new miner is not yet possible. The company will announce the delivery date later.

Currently, the Ethash ASIC miner leader is the Innosilicon A10 Pro with 7 GB of memory and a hash rate of up to 740 MH/s. Taking Bitmain’s claim into account, the Antminer E9 would surpass this figure by more than three times.

In April, Bitmain announced the release of the Antminer E9 for Ethereum mining. At the time, journalist Colin Wu suggested that the device’s hash rate could be around 1500 MH/s.

In September 2018, the Chinese company Linzhi announced the launch of a new line of Ethereum ASIC miners. At the end of 2020, the company unveiled the Phoenix model with a claimed hash rate 2600 MH/s.
