Bitmain orders 5nm chips for its ASIC miners

Bitmain orders 5nm chips for its ASIC miners

The ASIC-miner manufacturer Bitmain has placed an order with Taiwan’s TSMC for 5-nanometer chips for its equipment. About this сообщает Tom’s Hardware.

TSMC plans to begin production in the third quarter of 2021 and to substantially increase output for Bitmain in the first quarter of 2022.

TSMC’s N5 manufacturing process provides industry-leading transistor density and energy efficiency. Analysts expect that this will boost not only the hash rate of ASIC miners but also their price.

Back in в сентябре 2020 года, one of Bitmain’s founders, Micree Zhan, announced plans to release miners based on 5-nm chips ?.

In April 2021, the company announced the release of the ASIC miner Antminer E9 for Ethereum mining. Later, the manufacturer hinted that the device’s hash rate would эквивалентен 32 видеокартам Nvidia RTX 3080 (around 3040 MH/s).
