Bitmain selects service partner in North America
The US-based mining company Core Scientific has become Bitmain’s sole joint repair center in North America.
According to the press release, Core Scientific will provide repair and servicing of Bitmain’s ASIC miners in the region using original spare parts.
The establishment of the joint repair center is intended to reduce downtime associated with shipping equipment to China.
Core Scientific noted that over the past year the North American mining industry has shown sharp growth. From September 2019 to April 2020, the Bitcoin hash rate in the United States rose by 78%, outpacing the growth rate of the longtime leader, China.
“Having a repair center near mining operations in the United States is the key to improving efficiency when it comes to repairing miners,” said Kevin Turner, CEO of Core Scientific.
He added that the service center will not only reduce costs associated with shipping equipment to Asia, but also preserve the warranty, thanks to using original spare parts. All work will be performed by engineers certified by the Ant Training Academy of the Chinese manufacturer.
With the creation of the service, Core Scientific expanded its cooperation with Bitmain. Earlier, the American company bought 18,000 Antminer miners, and opened the first Ant Training Academy outside China, according to the statement.
Earlier, Bitmain signed agreements with US-based companies to supply large batches of miners. Marathon Patent Group will purchase 10,500 Antminer S19 Pro units for $23 million, and Riot Blockchain — 13,100 of the same models for $28.7 million.
Bitmain also expanded its partnership with Foundry, formerly a subsidiary of Digital Currency Group founder Barry Silbert, with the aim of financing equipment shipments to North America.
