BitMEX to halt services for residents of Ontario, Canada.

BitMEX, a cryptocurrency derivatives exchange, will stop servicing residents of the Canadian province of Ontario from 1 September, according to the company’s заявлении

Users are asked to close open positions by 4 September; otherwise they will be forcibly closed. Attempts to register and trade on the exchange after the deadline will breach the user agreement, BitMEX notes.

The exchange cited the Ontario Securities Commission’s actions as the reason, but gave no further details.

Ontario, whose capital is Toronto, is the most populous province in Canada. It is home to about 14.5 million people, or 38% of the country’s population.

Earlier, in BitMEX announced tightening of verification for all users. The new rules will take effect on Friday, 28 August. Existing clients will have six months to complete the procedures.

In mid-July, the exchange’s parent company underwent a restructuring, resulting in the creation of the firm 100x Group to run the exchange. At the time, the company said its plans extend far beyond BitMEX.

Earlier in June, a lawsuit was filed against the exchange, accusing the platform of operating in the United States without the necessary licence.
