Bitstamp to levy €10 monthly inactivity fee on some inactive accounts

Bitstamp, the cryptocurrency exchange, will begin charging a monthly fee on some holders of inactive accounts. The exchange said this in the блоге.

The ‘inactivity fee’ will be introduced from 1 August and will amount to €10 per month. It applies to clients with a balance on their account of less than €200 who have not traded, deposited or withdrawn assets on Bitstamp for a year.

The extra charge can be avoided by:

  • purchases or sales of cryptocurrencies (minimum amount — USD 25, EUR 25 or GBP 25);
  • deposits or withdrawals (a similar minimum amount);
  • staking via Bitstamp Earn.

The platform’s team attributed the move to the costs of servicing inactive accounts.

In April, Bitstamp asked clients for information about the origin of their crypto assets. Users said the exchange blocked withdrawals for EU clients who had not verified the provenance of deposits.

In May, the platform announced the appointment of a new CEO.
