Blockchain-based voting system from Rostelecom and Waves Enterprise to be deployed for elections

Rostelecom, in collaboration with Waves Enterprise, developed a remote electronic voting system based on blockchain. ForkLog was told this by representatives of Waves Enterprise.

The order to create the system was issued by the Central Election Commission of the Russian Federation (CEC).

The system is designed to provide secure access, reliability of information processing, confidentiality, and oversight of the voting procedure by all authorised participants, including independent observers.

The decision underwent technological testing in early August. Public testing is planned for the end of the month.

As reported earlier, the remote electronic voting technology is being used in by-elections for State Duma deputies in Kursk and Yaroslavl oblasts.

Remote voting will take place during the early voting period on 11-12 September, as well as on election day itself, 13 September.

The system will not be a full replacement for traditional voting; it is an additional way of expressing the vote, emphasised by the chair of the CEC, Ella Pamfilova.

As previously reported, blockchain technology was used in the vote on amendments to the Russian Constitution.

Back then, the system experienced several malfunctions, and later in the dark net appeared a database of 1.1 million passports of participants in blockchain voting.
