Blockstream representatives said the wallet is designed to accelerate the mass adoption of cryptocurrencies, with AQUA crafted to make sending and receiving funds as simple as possible.
The wallet is ready to use immediately after installation, without the traditional step of generating private keys. The 12-word seed phrase can be created at a later stage.
AQUA builds on the Blockstream Green wallet, which is also available in desktop versions, and will operate in parallel with it. The new product is open-source, enabling all members of the Liquid Federation to launch their own branded versions and use AQUA’s code for rapid deployment.
AQUA also supports direct Bitcoin purchases using debit cards or Apple Pay.
The Liquid Network, Blockstream’s settlement and payments network for Bitcoin exchanges, market-makers, brokers and other market participants, comprises more than 50 participants. In July, the digital asset management company CoinShares joined the network.
