BNB Chain developers detail released and forthcoming updates

BNB Chain developers presented a report on the updates released and outlined near-term plans to improve the network.

The protocol team noted the launch of the Greenfield testnet. The announced update in early 2023. It is an open-source project aimed at “providing a scalable and efficient level of data availability for decentralised applications”.

The developers reported adopting a proposal to reduce transaction costs in the Binance Smart Chain (BSC) protocol from 5 to 3 Gwei. In addition, the validator stake was reduced in the network—from 10,000 to 2,000 BNB.

The blockchain team also began researching MEV-technologies. Representatives urged other developers and experts to join the discussions.

On April 12, the network successfully прошел the Planck hard fork, during which several important decisions were integrated:

The developers announced two major projects — in mid-May they will launch the test network OpBNB, and on June 1 the ZkBNB mainnet based on zero-knowledge proofs will be released.

Another upcoming event will be the integration of BEP-26 proposal regarding the expiry of the protocol’s hybrid mode.

“Hybrid state in BNB Chain is a solution for optimizing BSC storage. It affects various aspects of the ecosystem, including account abstraction, L2, transaction execution, user interaction and the implementation of contracts,” — the team explained.

The developers noted that disabling the hybrid mode could create new problems and require updates to existing systems, but in the long term it would lead to greater efficiency and scalability for BSC.

In April, the protocol team expanded the list of high-risk Web3 projects by 191 items.
