The company behind the NFT collection Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC), Yuga Labs, published the lite paper for the Otherside project. The metaverse will be launched on the MSquared network from the Improbable startup.

“The document is intended to convey and explain the principles of the platform, the potential for developers and the possibilities for collaborative creation within the community. Consider the lite paper as a step in the project’s development. In the end, it will be replaced by the Code, which will continually evolve,” the developers wrote.
According to the publication, Otherside is a “platform for creating worlds.” It will be launched on the MSquared interoperable metaverse network (M²) from the Improbable startup. M² uses a set of Project Morpheus components designed to optimise network traffic and improve rendering efficiency.
Developers demonstrated the capabilities of the game engine during the project’s demo launch.
The Otherside rollout will occur in several stages. In the first phase, access will be granted only to holders of Otherdeed NFTs and “selected external developers”. They will be able to undertake the narrative campaign The Voyager’s Journey, and will also become the first content creators on the platform.
Yaga Labs introduced Otherdeed in May 2022. The company issued 55,000 NFTs at a price of 305 APE (around $5,300 at the time). All tokens were sold out in less than three hours.
In the lite paper, it notes that each Otherdeed token grants the right to own a parcel of land in a virtual world. The developers noted that governance decisions by users will directly affect the value of these parcels.
The company will also release The Otherside Development Kit (ODK), a toolkit that enables content creation for metaverses. Objects created with the ODK can be moved between M²-compatible worlds.
To facilitate NFT trading among users, Yaga Labs will launch the Agora marketplace. It is positioned as the economic hub of Otherside.
In June 2022, the creators of BAYC were accused of using far-right symbolism.
