The Brazilian Securities and Exchange Commission (CVM) should devote “special attention” to cryptocurrency operations not covered by the current regulatory regime. This view was expressed by the candidate for the head of the agency, Otto Eduardo Fonseca de Albuquerque Lobo, writes Poder 360.
The official nominated by President Jair Bolsonaro has won the approval of the Senate Committee on Economic Affairs. His nomination is due to be considered at the upper chamber’s plenary session.
“CVM should focus on unregulated crypto operations. This year the regulator allowed the trading of ETF, index funds”, — explained de Albuquerque Lobo.
The official did not disclose his position on digital assets.
In March, the CVM approved the first Latin American exchange-traded fund based on the first cryptocurrency.
