The Swiss luxury-watchmaker Breitling has offered its customers digital certificates of authenticity.

The company collaborates with the Arianee project, which uses the Ethereum blockchain. All new watches will receive a unique digital certificate — it contains the serial number of the item and the warranty activation date.
The certificate is stored in an encrypted digital wallet. Breitling noted that the certificate is not linked to the owner’s name, email address or other personal data.
This is not the first time large companies have turned to blockchain technology. For example, BMW’s Korean subsidiary will launch a blockchain-based loyalty system; the points earned by program participants can be spent on goods or discounts.
