Celebrating Bitcoin Pizza Day: Binance Contests and Paolo Ardoino's Greetings

Each year on May 22, the cryptocurrency community celebrates Bitcoin Pizza Day. This occasion marks a pivotal event in the industry when, in 2010, programmer Laszlo Hanyecz purchased two Papa John’s pizzas for 10,000 BTC.

At the time of writing, these bitcoins are valued at approximately $700 million. In 2024, the community celebrates Bitcoin Pizza Day for the 14th time. ForkLog has compiled greetings and promotions for the occasion.

Among the event’s supporters is the cryptocurrency exchange Binance. This year, the platform is giving away $2000 among community participants and preparing pizza offline.

The Gemini exchange announced a cash contest in honor of the holiday.

Representatives from HTX congratulated the community, marking another significant year for the industry.

The OKX exchange shared a meme about how Hanyecz reflects each year on the bitcoins spent.

To mark the occasion, the aggregator CoinGecko compiled bitcoin prices on this day over the past 15 years.

Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino extended his greetings to the community. According to him, the task of the day is to share a pizza with a friend and introduce them to bitcoin.

In 2022, ForkLog magazine released thematic NFTs on OpenSea, dedicated to Pizza Day.

Back in May 2020, Laszlo Hanyecz revealed that he actually spent significantly more than 10,000 BTC on pizzas.

In 2021, the management of the Dutch Domino’s Pizza franchise offered employees the option to receive their salary in the first cryptocurrency in honor of Bitcoin Pizza Day.
