Celsius reports data breach linked to Customer.io compromise
The Celsius Network, a crypto-lending platform, suffered a data breach caused by the compromise of the email service Customer.io. The company said this in an email, The Block reports.
Celsius does not regard the breach as posing high risk to users. The company notes, however, that the incident represents a serious breach of the provider–client relationship and has alerted the relevant authorities.
Initially, Customer.io stated that its users’ data were not affected, Celsius said. However, the service later confirmed the breach of Celsius users’ email addresses.
Celsius says it deleted all data that had been transmitted to Customer.io immediately after the incident was reported.
Experts warned that Celsius users could face a wave of phishing attacks.
⚠️ Celsius users should expect phishing emails along the lines of «Verify your wallet to withdraw your funds» that will phish for your SRP/PKey due to this
Remember, your SRP should only be known to you and you only https://t.co/QYuDhEE7aL

As reported, the hack of Customer.io stemmed from an employee’s misuse of access to information. the NFT marketplace OpenSea reported a data breach.
In Customer.io, they stated that, besides OpenSea, five other customers of the service were affected. The service did not disclose their names.
In mid-July, Celsius filed for bankruptcy. Later, the head of the company, Alex Mashinsky, said that as of July 13 the platform held assets of $4.3 billion. Its liabilities to customers and creditors stood at $5.5 billion.
The crypto-lending platform unveiled a plan to reorganise the business, centred on a mining subsidiary. Profits from Bitcoin mining are to be used to reimburse losses to users and pay creditors.
