Changpeng Zhao Buys Property in Dubai as Media Hint at Binance Opening Office in the Emirate
Changpeng Zhao, founder and CEO of Binance, became a property owner in crypto-friendly Dubai in October. In Bloomberg they saw this as a signal of the bitcoin exchange’s forthcoming headquarters opening.
“The emirate’s government is progressive; they have created favorable conditions for business. We are targeting this location. I bought an apartment there”, — he said.
Earlier Zhao described his car and home as ‘illiquid’, explaining that this is the reason he did not own them.
In an interview, the Binance CEO noted the continued interest of the bitcoin exchange in Singapore, where the local subsidiary filed a request with the MAS for a license.
According to Zhao, an announcement about opening the headquarters will follow after discussions with regulators.
“Our main office does not necessarily have to be here [in the UAE]. France and Singapore are also positive toward cryptocurrencies,” he explained.
Earlier Zhao said that Binance planned to open its headquarters in France.
Earlier in the U.S. arm of the bitcoin exchange, plans to raise $200 million ahead of the IPO were disclosed. It was also revealed that the parent company was in talks about investments from unnamed sovereign funds.
