ChatGPT User Base Doubles in Six Months

The number of weekly users of the ChatGPT chatbot has surpassed 400 million, with the application taking less than six months to double its user base. This is according to a report by Andreessen Horowitz (a16z).

In November 2023, the user base stood at 100 million, reaching 200 million by August 2024.

Soon after its release in November 2022, ChatGPT became the fastest-growing application in history, with the number of monthly active users surpassing 100 million within two months.

A sharp increase occurred following the launch of the GPT-4o model, which introduced multimodal capabilities. Subsequently, an enhanced voice mode and a reasoning neural network o1 were introduced.

Code Editing

Meanwhile, ChatGPT has been trained to directly edit code when operating on macOS. The new version of the application includes this feature in supported tools such as Xcode, VS Code, and JetBrains.

Developers need to enable the auto-apply mode to allow the chatbot to make edits. The service is available to Plus, Pro, and Team subscribers. It will soon be open to all, including Windows users.

OpenAI and Oracle plan to begin filling a new data center in Texas with tens of thousands of Nvidia AI chips in the coming months. This is reported by Bloomberg, citing sources.

According to the publication, 64,000 Nvidia GB200 processors will be installed by the end of 2026. Initially, 16,000 devices are planned to be launched by the summer of 2025.

The initiative is part of Stargate — a project announced on January 21, which involves private investments in AI infrastructure amounting to $500 billion. For this, OpenAI, Softbank, and Oracle have created a joint venture.

Experts have expressed doubts about the ability to attract the specified amount for such a large-scale initiative.
