Chia price slides 60% after trading begins

The coin is trading on OKEx, Gate.io, MXC.COM and Bibox.

On the OKEx exchange the peak price reached $2,500, on Gate.io – $1,560.

The total daily trading volume of Chia amounts to $18.4 million, according to CoinMarketCap.

The amount of disk space occupied by the cryptocurrency currently достиг 2.11 exabytes. 457,402 coins have been mined from just over 21 million units.

The BitTorrent protocol network Chia Network, created by Bram Cohen, uses the Proof-of-Space and Proof-of-Time [proofs of space and time].

The project’s mainnet launched in March 2021.

According to the white paper from 10 February, the company raised about $16 million in financing via SAFE (Simple Agreement for Future Equity) agreements. The last round of $5 million closed in August 2020.

The company is backed by venture funds including Andreessen Horowitz, Galaxy Investment Group, DCM Ventures, True Ventures and others.

Earlier, amid the hype around the coins, miners of the cryptocurrency created a local shortage of HDDs and SSDs in China. The local solid-state drive maker Galax warned users that they would refuse warranty service for the SSDs on which Chia was mined.

For a 200 TB rig, it would cost around $16,000.
