China develops AI to gauge loyalty of Communist Party members
Researchers in China have developed an artificial intelligence that can read minds of Communist Party members and determine their loyalty. The Times reports.
The system can read facial expressions and “brain waves” of people while they view party information materials.
According to the publication, at least 43 CCP members have already undergone the test. A participant sat in a dedicated booth and faced a screen displaying materials promoting the party’s policies and achievements.
The developers did not provide details about the device or the operation of the “mind-reading” algorithms.
An article describing the system was published on 1 July 2022 by the Hefei Comprehensive National Science Center. The work was soon removed from the internet, probably due to rising public discontent.
This is not the first attempt by the Chinese authorities to intensify ideological propaganda. Earlier the party released the app “Learn to Make China Stronger,” in which around 97 million CCP members must earn points by reading articles and watching videos and answering questions.
Users are required to meet a daily quota of 40 points, which can be exchanged for various gifts such as pastries from the nearest cafe or electronics.
In June, Chinese authorities employed apps to track the spread of the coronavirus to quell protests by defrauded investors.
