Christie’s to auction Beeple NFT

Britain’s auction house Christie’s has for the first time put up for sale a non-fungible token (NFT). The work Everydays: The First 5000 Days was created by Mike Winkelmann, known as Beeple.

Christie’s is proud to offer \”Everydays — The First 5000 Days\” by @beeple as the first purely digital work of art ever offered by a major auction house. Bidding will be open from Feb 25-Mar 11.

The work is a collage of thousands of Winkelmann’s works published online since 2007. At the end of 2020, Beeple earned $3.5m at NFT auctions.

According to the auction page, it will run from February 25 to March 11, with a starting price of $100. The buyer will receive the artwork with a unique NFT encrypted with Beeple’s signature.

“Minted exclusively for Christie’s in February 2021, the monumental digital collage will be Beeple’s first work sold at a major auction. This is also the first-ever purely digital artwork offered at a traditional auction with authenticity guaranteed by blockchain,” the lot description states.

In January 2021, the Topps Digital introduced 18 NFT cards featuring Senator Bernie Sanders in mittens.

In early February, actress Lindsay Lohan sold the NFT Lightning at the Rarible auction for $70,000.

Earlier, on February 16, Charlie Lee, the creator of Litecoin, predicted a crash for NFTs due to their “zero cost” to create.

Earlier, billionaire Mark Cuban said that non-fungible tokens could be incredibly popular in the next ten years.
